Fibrillar rupture in football players and its treatment with Capenergy

Rotura fibrilar en futbolistas y su tratamiento con Capenergy

Muscle injuries in football players, especially fibrillar ruptures, are common and can significantly impact sports performance.

One of the most frequent and challenging injuries for professional football players is a fibrillar rupture of the quadriceps. This injury, generally caused by excessive strain or a brusque movement, can generate pain, functional impotence and even limit the player ‘s mobility for a long period of time. Treatment with Capenergy, and specifically with its second generation radio frequency, has shown exceptional results in the recovery of this type of injuries.

In this article, we’ll explore how fibrillar rupture in football players can be efficiently treated with Capenergy’s second generation radiofrequency. Through a detailed case study, we show the benefits of treatment with Capenergy and how this technology is revolutionizing muscular injury rehab in the sports field.

What is a fibrillar rupture and how does it affect football players?

A fibrillar rupture is a muscle injury which occurs when the muscle fibers tear due to excessive contraction or abrupt stretching. Una rotura fibrilar es una lesión muscular que se produce cuando las fibras musculares se desgarran debido a una contracción excesiva o a un estiramiento abrupto. In case of football players, these ruptures tend to occur in the course of high intensity situations such as sprints, jumps or rapid changes of direction, common during training or games. Football players tend to experiment a sudden and intense pain in the affected area, often accompanied by visible bruises.

Fibrillar ruptures in football players often occur during sprints, jumps or fast turns.

Traditionally, fibrillar ruptures are classified in three degrees of fibrillar rupture, according to the severity of the rupture and the number of affected fibers. Tradicionalmente las roturas fibrilares se clasifican en 3 grados de rotura fibrilar, dependiendo de su gravedad y número de fibras afectadas:

  • Degree 1: distension or micro rupture.
  • Degree 2 or moderate: partial muscle rupture.
  • Degree 3 or severe: total muscle rupture.

Recovery from a fibrillar rupture depends on several factors, such as the degree of the injury, treatment time and the type of rehabilitation that ‘s being considered. Nevertheless, the healing process can be long and can affect the player ‘s performance.

Capenergy vs. traditional treatment: What makes it different?

In general lines, the initial treatment of fibrillar rupture is focused on the reduction of pain, inflammation and blood spillage. For third degree injuries the treatment is surgical intervention. In later stages, the goal is to improve mobility range and strength and sports rehabilitation.

The conventional treatment for fibrillar rupture includes rest, manual physiotherapy and, in some case, the use of techniques such as the application of ice, electrostimulation and massages. Nevertheless, recovery with these treatments may require a lot of time and they often do not sufficiently speed up the healing process, especially in the case of high profile players who need to get back to competing as soon as possible.

The key difference of the treatment with Capenergy technology is its capacity to speed up the muscle tissue repair by means of high power radiofrequency. Capenergy tecar therapy uses a radiofrequency current that penetrates the more profound tissue layers, boosting cell regeneration and the repair of the damaged muscle fibers

During the treatment with second generation radiofrequency, the body itself becomes part of the circuit, improving the effectiveness of the treatment.

This “condenser principle” is based on the body ‘s capacity to conduct energy through electrolyte movements, instead of electrons, as happens in the case of traditional conductors. Thanks to this, ‘displacement currents” are generated when the electrodes enter in contact with the skin, which produces a thermal sensation, felt from the inside out.

Clinical case of fibrillar rupture in a football player

Let ‘s analyze a recent case that shows the efficiency of the Capenergy treatment for fibrillar ruptures in football players.

A 20-year old professional football player suffered a rupture of the rectus femoris muscle of the quadriceps during training. After conventional treatment he did not show significant improvement and he decided to start up treatment with Capenergy,  38 days after the injury.

An intensive treatment with second generation radiofrequency was performed during 8 consecutive days (3 sessions per day), with a total of 24 sessions of one hour each, using a Capenergy C200.

The Capenergy treatment combined 30 minutes of automatic treatment with capacitive plates (2 active plates on the quadriceps and 2 passive plates on the hamstrings) and 30 minutes with capacitive and resistive electrodes in cross-fire mode, with the return plates close to the lymph nodes. During all these applications, a frequency of 0.8Mhz and a power output of 60% was used. .

Results visible in less than one month

Evolution of fibrillar rupture in a football player
    • Ultrasound 1 (38 days after the injury): The first ultrasound was performed 38 days after the injury, at the level of the middle third of the rectus femoris of the quadriceps. A hypo-echoic formation with internal echoes maximum cut  59x16x22 mm,  which suggests an image of fibrillar rupture and bruises at said level.
    •  Ultrasound 2 (43 days after the injury): A control ultrasound was made after 3 days of treatment (9th session) to see the progress of the injury. It showed a noticeable improvement of the injury. A hypo-echoic formation with internal echoes of 32×6,9×5,5 mm is observed, corresponding to a fibrillar rupture in the middle third of the rectus femoris.
    • Ultrasound 3 (45 days after the injury): After finalizing the treatment (session 24) with Capenergy radiofrequency, a final ultrasound is made, which shows the significant reduction of the rupture. A reduction of 27X9.1X16.5mm of the diameter of the fibrillar rupture of the rectus femoris is achieved.

Advantages of Capenergy in the rehabilitation of the fibrillar ruptures

Traditional rehabilitation after a fibrillar rupture can be long and tedious. Nevertheless, Capenergy radiofrequency offers an innovative alternative to speed up recovery. Capenergy, thanks to its capacity to stimulate the processes of tissue repair and reduce inflammation, has become a key ally in the rehabilitation of muscle injuries. Let’s look at the advantages:

    1. Faster recovery: Thanks to its capacity to promote tissue regeneration and improve circulation, Capenergy accelerates the healing of the fibrillar rupture, allowing football players to resume sports activity in less time.
    2. Non-invasive treatment: Unlike other treatment options that require surgical intervention or invasive procedures, Capenergy radiofrequency is completely non-invasive, making it ideal for post-surgical rehabilitation or for the treatment of sports injuries.
    3. Reduction of inflammation and pain: Capenergy helps reduce inflammation and alleviating pain in the affected area, which improves the life quality of patients during their recovery process.
    4. Personalized treatment: Capenergy’s devices allow for a highly personalized treatment, adapting to each patient ‘s individual needs. Physiotherapists can adjust the intensity or the type of treatment according to the degree of the injury and the patient ‘s response.

In short, fibrillar ruptures are one of the most common injuries among football players, pero thanks to Capenergy’s technology, recovery has become faster, efficient and less invasive. Thanks to the treatment with second generation radiofrequency, athletes can speed up the healing, reduce inflammation or recover the muscle functionality in a more efficient way, which allows returning to sports activity as fast as possible.
